While Johnston Financial Services (“JFS”) started as an effort to help a friend, it has grown into a financial services business that specializes in Healthcare and Small Business accounting solutions and reporting. JFS provides services to individuals and companies to assist them in achieving their financial and business goals. JFS also specializes in reporting and other needs for the healthcare industry. JFS team members help clients with financial statement preparation, creation and implementation of startup financial systems, assistance with the Medicare Cost Report, ad hoc reporting, tax preparation and other financial needs.
Kelly Johnston opened JFS in April 2016 with no intention of making it her permanent job. She had a friend who needed some financial help, and by wanting to do everything by the book, Kelly legally formalized Johnston Financial Services LLC. By January of 2017, she was taking classes at the Grand Junction Incubator Center to learn more about the ins and outs of small businesses and networking with other small business owners. Johnston quickly realized there weren’t a lot of great options for a competent bookkeeper for SMBs in the area. Most of the best bookkeepers in town already had a full client list, and by her participation at the Incubator Center, Kelly was getting more and more requests for accounting help with the small business.
During this time, a hospital reached out to Kelly for help with a Medicare Cost Report, and Audit and Johnston realized JFS was something she excelled at, enjoyed, could do full-time and there was a great need for it in the community. Once again, she switched gears and put all her passion and energy into JFS.
Johnston has steadily grown JFS in the few years since its creation. Kelly now has three staff members that help her keep up with the demands of a growing business. She prides herself and her team on their knowledge, as well as their ability to personally get to know and understand their clients and their client’s companies.
Kelly has worked with Networks Unlimited in some form throughout her career in the Grand Valley, so when she officially started her firm, she contacted Networks Unlimited to provide the guidance and services needed for JFS.
